Serving with humility

As I am preparing for the Easter service at church tomorrow I have been thinking about Jesus celebrating the Passover with the disciples known as the last supper. I wonder what was going through the disciples' minds? Who would sit next to Jesus? Who was most important? Luke 22:24 records that a dispute broke out among them as to which of them was considered to be the greatest. Jesus could have issued a stern rebuke, but he didn't. He got up from the table, took off his outer clothing and wrapped a towel around his waist. Next he poured a basin of water and began to wash the disciples' feet. It is significant that Jesus didn't speak, he did something. Washing the disciples' feet was an act of humility. I am certain (at least I hope) that the disciples got the point. Jesus came to serve, and serving requires humility.

It is my prayer that as we reflect on the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that we will live as Christ did, serving with humility the people God has put in our lives.

Easter blessings!
